The crackled surface is strong and durable in terms of surface wear, resistance to heat, cold and moisture.  If the surface is glazed, the glaze layer is actually the most sensitive and may need a protective topcoat depending on where the painted surface is located.

Proceed® Smooth Cracking Texture is a single-step, trowelable smooth texture that generates a geometric "mud crack" crackle pattern and creates the look of aged, weathered plaster.

Characteristics

  • Smooth Cracking Texture has been compared to a "venetian plaster" that's cracking.
  • It has a matte, absorbent surface quality.
  • Dries to an opaque, translucent white. May be tinted or have a glaze or paint applied on top.

How do I apply Smooth Cracking Texture?

  • To create the best adhesion and the most interesting crackle pattern use Proceed Low Absorbency Base Coat as primer and paint.
  • Apply with a trowel or blade.
  • It may be rolled but a minimum thickness must be applied to create the crackle pattern, see Crackle: Minimum and Maximum Thicknesses.
  • Click here to watch a video: http://www.proceedsystem.com/video/crackleVideo.php
  • Recommended only for rigid substrates. Apply to a clean, dry substrate. Apply at a coverage rate of 58 sq. ft/gallon (wet film of 25 mils) or less. Thin applications will generate a fine cracking pattern with fine fissures and small islands. As thickness increases, the cracking pattern becomes more pronounced with larger fissures and islands. For more pronounced cracking patterns, prep surface by priming with Proceed Low Absorbency Base Coat and apply one or more coats of Cracking Size. Dries to a hard, absorbent surface. Optimum application conditions are 70°F and 50% relative humidity. Full hardness is developed in 2 - 4 weeks. Clean tools with soap and water. Store between 50° - 80°F

How do I tint Smooth Cracking Texture?

Tint with Proceed Pigment Dispersions. Do not add more than 10% dispersion. Always test tint ratio before use. Use of more than recommended percentage could alter application consistency and cracking pattern.

What to Avoid

  • Do not thin, force dry or apply multiple layers of Smooth Cracking Texture.
  • CAUTION: Application over extremely absorbent surfaces will mute the cracking pattern and/or result in adhesion failure. Always perform test applications when using Cracking Size over other brands of paint as loss of adhesion may result, do not apply over semi-gloss or gloss sheens.
  • Don't allow your product to freeze.

Coverage of 9.5 sq. ft./gallon or 150 mil

This thickness is not recommended, at this thickness the Crackle Size is ineffective.

Over shiny, slippery, surfaces such as Semi-Gloss sheen basepaint and the Crackle Size, this product may sag.

Coverage of 19 sq. ft/gallon or 75 mil

Coverage of 58 sq. ft/gallon or 25 mil
